Hungarian Language Program, Secondary School Level |

Grade 9 |
This course emphasizes the development of oral communication, reading
and writing skills in the Hungarian language. Students will build on
and apply their knowledge of Hungarian while exploring a variety of
themes, such as culture differences, art and literature, and social
trends. Thematic reading, which includes a selection of short stories,
articles and poems will serve as stepping stones to oral and written
activities. In an effort to increase student interest in the Hungarian
language, the geography and history of Hungary will also be
introduced. The aim of the program is to provide students with
functional communication skills in Hungarian and an understanding of
the nature of the language and its culture. |

Grade 11 & 12 |
This course provides for extensive study of Hungarian history,
literature and culture from the Middle Ages to the present. Students
will study novels, plays, poems, films, and non-fictional works
produced in various historical periods, and will write a formal
research paper. The use of correct grammar and appropriate language
conventions in both spoken and written Hungarian will be emphasized
throughout the course.
Components include: geography, history and literature of Hungary
between 896 and present; grammar of the Hungarian language; Hungarian
culture (dance, folksongs, movies, music…) |
