50th Anniversary
 

The 50th Anniversary Helicon Ball was held Saturday, February 10, 2007 in the Concert Hall of the Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

Opening the Ball was the traditional procession of our Distinguished Guests, followed by a retrospective video which highlighted just a few of the memorable moments in the Ball’s long and prestigious past. The ten couples who danced the Palotás brought us a taste of the Old World through their graceful interpretation of this noble dance. The highlight of the evening was truly the introduction of our eleven radiant Debutantes, who, together with their Escorts opened up the dancefloor to the Strauss’ Blue Danube waltz.

A memorable and moving speech was given by Dr. Tamás Téglássy, Chair of the first few Helicon Balls. It was such an honour to have him present at this milestone.

After a delicious four course dinner, dancing was in full swing! In the Concert Hall, the Micky Loran Orchestra had our guests dancing to a wide range of styles while those with a more modern taste enjoyed the current hits played by a DJ in the Ballroom.

Later in the evening, guests were treated to a Csárdás lesson lead by Ödön Bessenyei. There wasn’t any room left on the dance floor as dancers mastered the basic steps. The Midnight Prize Draw was as popular as ever:  thank you to all our generous prize donors for their support.

At 2 a.m., the Ball was closed for the night. Plans are already being made for the 51st Helicon Ball. We hope you will join us as we move into this new phase in our history.
