2006-2007 Events

The Hungarian Helicon Society organizes and supports several events in Toronto throughout the year.  For our 2006-2007 Season, our events included:

Hungarian Rhapsody ~ Friday, September 15, 2006 - 8:00 p.m.
A piano concert with Mary Kenedi commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Hungarian uprising and the 125th anniversary of Béla Bartók’s birth. Hungarian Splendour: Masterpieces from the National Gallery in Budapest ~ September 23 to December 31,2006

Opening of George Faludy Place ~ Tuesday, October 3, 2006 - 12:00 noon
Heritage Toronto and the Toronto Legacy Project are unveiling the parkette dedicated to George Faludy, Hungarian poet. Members of the Hungarian Helicon Society generously supported this parkette with their donations. Mr. Faludy’s profile has been sculpted by Dora de Pedery-Hunt and will be cast in bronze for display at the parkette. Location: corner of St. Mary and St. Nicholas Streets in downtown Toronto.

55th annual Season Opening Reception ~ Thursday, October 12, 2006 - 7:30 p.m.

An Evening to Share Memories... ~ Wednesday, January 10, 2007 - 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The Helicon Ball Committee invites you to attend a reception in anticipation of the 50th anniversary Helicon Ball. An evening with Andrew Benyei ~ Wednesday, April 18, 2007 - 7:30 p.m.
Join us as Andrew Benyei presents, with the help of slides, a humorous and informative talk about his work. He will touch on the creative process as well as some of the technical aspects of sculpting. He will also share some of his personal experiences in undertaking commissions for works of art from clients. This promises to be an informative and entertaining evening. Location: Toronto Botanical Garden, studio 3.

Helikonyha Cooking Class ~ Sunday, April 29, 2007 - 3:00 pm
Kitchen of the Hungarian House/Magyar Haz  Learn how to cook two Hungarian dishes! The class will be taught in English and will be lead by András L. Török. The dishes he has selected are: Lecsó (a dish made of Stewed Tomatoes, Peppers and Onions) and Kapros Túrós Tészta (Noodles with Cottage Cheese & Dill). Click here to view the registration form.
